Damien Hirst Heads to the Ukraine

April 28, 2009

Artist Damien Hirst heads to Kiev, Ukraine to show at the Pinchuk Art Center for his show “Requiem”, an exciting retrospective of over 100 works including sculptures and never seen before oil paintings. Hirst chose the Ukraine due to what he describes as it’s “newly discovered interest with contemporary art.”

When speaking to the Associated Press television he said, “I’ve always thought that museums are for dead artists and I kind of was afraid of that. But I think because in Ukraine the audience is so new … to contemporary art at least … that makes it exciting, that makes me want to do it.”

The exhibit opened Saturday April 25th and will run through September 20th. Already 10,000 people have flocked to see the exhibition.

Hirst’s piece, “The Dream”, a pickled unicorn will be on display.
