Official Report: Jeffrey Deitch Named Director of MoCA

January 11, 2010

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles has just announced that New York gallery owner Jeffrey Deitch has officially been named Director. The museum has been without a director since December of 2008. The board voted this morning in a final approval of the appointment. This news leaves many wondering the future of Deitch Projects in NYC and marks a turn from the norm as Deitch becomes the only gallery owner / art dealer in the United States to head a major museum. ***UPDATE*** It has been announced that Deitch will take over the position as of June 1st and will close the doors to his famed Deitch Projects in NYC. It will be sad to see this gallery that has played such an important role in the downtown art scene close it’s doors.
