Matt Mignanelli NYC Studio Visit / Preview – “The Paradigm”, Recoat Gallery, Glasgow

March 8, 2010

After a quick slice on Matt Mignanelli‘s corner off of Third Avenue in the East Village, the Ballast got a preview of Matt’s first solo show at Recoat Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland later this month.

After receiving his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design , Matt a Rhode Island native, set up shop here in New York to vault his painting career into full force. After a few years of building up an extensive list of commercial clients as well as participating in various group shows, at the age of 26 he is now growing in popularity throughout the UK and across the US. He has a lecture coming up at the Art Directors Club of Tulsa and a second solo show late August in San Francisco.

As we step into Matt’s studio, we took a look at the collection of work that will be at the show. Along with a look at his inspirations and sketches that went into creating ‘The Paradigm’.

Matt’s geometric explosions of color and pattern dot his studio and home. Take a look for yourself below. If you are in Glasgow, don’t miss the opening which he’ll be in attendance for on Friday, April 2nd.

Meaty Pablo- I knew your art was top shelf but who knew you had such modeling skills? I sure hope that camera double- bagged it.

    -Congrats on the show.
